interzum guangzhou/CIFM 2011 opens with a big bang

interzum guangzhou/CIFM - Asia’s largest one-stop woodworking and furniture production trade platform -  opens today in Guangzhou, China,

• delivering 110,000 square meters of exhibits by 1,023 manufacturers from 30 countries and regions;

• Growing by 10,000 square meters in scale and a 15 per cent rise in exhibitor number.

Record-breaking show

Of the 1,023 exhibitors at interzum guangzhou/CIFM 2011, 20 per cent flocked in from overseas including Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Israel, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Portugal, Singapore, Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan Region, Thailand, Turkey, Uruguay, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, the United States and Vietnam. Both the number of exhibitors and its diversity have once again propelled the event to a new level. Over the next three days a slew of new innovations and unique products will be unveiled.

This year, old timers in the form of national pavilions from Germany, the United States and Canada, Italy, Taiwan, as well as the USA Hardwood States Export Group Pavilion are all present to showcase their wares. TTAt the same time it is understood that wide industry recognition has also driven new exhibitors to sign up at interzum guangzhou/CIFM. To meet with market demand, organizers have increased the space area by ten per cent from last year’s 100,000 square meters but booth space is still in short supply. This is further compounded by the fact that booths in the international zone were sold out five months ahead.

Nevertheless, Michael Dreyer, Vice President Asia Pacific of Koelnmesse GmbH sees this as a ‘good problem’ and is ecstatic over the market response. “With a high percentage of returning exhibitors and the increasing number of new sign-ups every year, we welcome this pressure and see it as impetus to further develop the event”, he said.

Enhanced visitors’ procurement experience

To aid visitors in navigating the massive area and targeting products of their interest, interzum guangzhou/CIFM 2011 is presented in five zones, namely, Woodworking Machinery & International Machinery Area, Mattress & Sewing Machinery & Furniture Production Tools Area, Hardware Zone, Raw Materials & Components Area, and the International Zone. Of these mentioned, spotlighting the event is the International Zone housed at Hall 11.2 which is further streamlined into four distinct product groups: Wood Products / Adhesives, Hardware / Accessories, Materials for Upholstery / Textile and Bedding Productions / Accessories.

Delving into industry insights

Conference delegates are in for a treat this year. Aimed at addressing the current market trends, organizers have specially introduced the Innovative Materials and Design Forum which sees local and overseas industry experts from trade associations like Ursula Geismann, General Manager of the National Confederation of German Woodworking and Furniture Industries; acknowledged expert on the uses and market applications of hardwood species and products like Michael Buckley; senior management of established manufacturers like Sebastian Hunathey, Export Manager of the Schattdecor Group; as well as experienced technical talents to address issues on the sustainable development of innovative materials and discuss applicable solutions. Leading local designers such as Chen Wanli, He Xiaoning and Long Weiji will also be providing insights on the design and application of the most cutting-edge materials for furniture production.

Hosted by German trade fair organizer, Koelnmesse, and the China Foreign Trade Centre, interzum guangzhou/CIFM will run in conjunction with the China International Furniture Fair from 27 to 30, March  at the China Import and Export Complex in Guangzhou.
